The Classroom Instructor creates a positive learning environment to facilitate the personal, social, and intellectual development of students. In order to respond to the individual needs and abilities of students, the Classroom Instructor must work closely with other staff, the administration, and other programs of Dodge City Public Schools.

  1. Kansas certification in content area assignment or certification in a different state with qualifications that allow for licensure in Kansas. 

Advanced degree, experience and/or specialized training in curriculum content and instructional pedagogy relative to assignment preferred.

  1. Knowledge and experience with instruction, methodology and materials related to bilingual education. ESL/ESOL endorsement preferred.

Demonstrated ability to work with fellow educators to develop, implement and evaluate instructional strategies and materials to improve teaching and learning for all students

Kansas Certification of Health on file in the Central Office.

Personal Qualities – Appearance, grooming and personality which establish a desirable example for students.

Ability to meet District standards for physical and mental health.

Better than average recommendations from student teaching supervisors or other professionals who have observed the personal characteristics, scholastic attainment and classroom performance of the teacher.

Demonstrated ability to assess needs and respond with appropriate action to achieve goals � persistent problem solver

Flexibility with schedule, program demands and student needs

Demonstrated ability to self-start

Demonstrated ability to respond to needs creatively and independently

Position Overview

South Barber USD 255 is seeking a passionate, energetic, and dedicated Agriculture Education Teacher to lead our well-established Ag program and serve as the FFA Advisor. This position is ideal for an educator who thrives on hands-on learning, community involvement, and shaping the next generation of agricultural leaders.

You will be responsible for delivering a comprehensive curriculum that spans animal science, plant science, ag mechanics, and leadership development, while maintaining a premier FFA chapter that is deeply integrated into the Kiowa and Hazelton communities.

Key Responsibilities

1. Classroom Instruction

  1. Develop and implement engaging lesson plans for a variety of Ag courses (e.g., Animal Science, Plant & Soil Science, Ag Mechanics, Ag Business).
  2. Utilize the Three-Circle Model of Agricultural Education: Classroom/Laboratory Instruction, FFA, and Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE).
  3. Maintain a safe and productive laboratory environment, including the shop and greenhouse facilities.

2. FFA Leadership

  1. Serve as the primary advisor for the South Barber FFA Chapter.
  2. Oversee student participation in Career Development Events (CDEs) and Leadership Development Events (LDEs).
  3. Coordinate chapter meetings, community service projects, and fundraising activities.
  4. Travel with students to district, state, and national conventions.

3. SAE Oversight

  1. Provide guidance and supervision for students’ Supervised Agricultural Experience programs.
  2. Assist students in maintaining accurate record books (via AET or similar platforms).
  3. Conduct site visits to monitor student progress and workplace safety.

4. Community & Professionalism

  1. Collaborate with the local Ag Advisory Council to ensure curriculum remains relevant to industry standards.
  2. Maintain strong relationships with local farmers, ranchers, and agribusinesses.
  3. Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and district committees.

Qualifications & Requirements

  1. Education: Bachelors degree in Agricultural Education or a related field.
  2. Licensure: Valid Kansas Teaching License with an endorsement in Agriculture (or eligibility to obtain one by the start of the 2026-2027 school year).
  3. Skills: * Strong knowledge of agricultural industry trends.
  4. Technical proficiency in ag mechanics (welding, small engines, etc.) preferred.
  5. Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  6. Vibe Check: We are looking for someone who isn’t afraid to get their hands dirty and who truly cares about the “blue corduroy jacket” legacy.

Salary & Benefits

  1. Salary: Commensurate with experience and education per the USD 255 Negotiated Agreement.
  2. Contract: Likely includes an extended contract (e.g., 10 or 11 months) to accommodate summer FFA activities and SAE supervision.
