Cheylin USD 103 in Bird City is a 1A school district with 150 students K-12 and is located in Cheyenne County. Our four day school week has been in place for many years. Our average class size is 12. The regular school day starts at 8:00 am and ends at 4:00 pm Monday – Thursday.  We have 153 student days and 160 teacher contract days.  The teacher base pay is $41,200 with a single policy Blue Cross Blue Shield Health Insurance Benefit for all full time employees.  Cheylin USD 103 offers academic study/tuition reimbursement towards an advanced degree program (Masters).  The reimbursement rate is up to 75% of the tuition cost per hour up to a maximum of $200 per graduate credit hour.

The communities of Bird City and McDonald make up the Cheylin district.  The patrons are very supportive of a quality education for our students.

Cheylin School district has an excellent staff with a mix of both new and experienced teachers.  We have high academic expectations for all students and prepare students for post secondary education and/or career training.  Our students consistently perform well on Kansas State Assessments and are at the top of WKLL schools in scholarship testing.  We have a variety of vocational electives available in agriculture, industrial arts and business.  The district has a 1:1 Chromebook initiative in grades 1 through 12. 

Cheylin is part of the WKLL and participates in 6-man football, volleyball, basketball and track.

District pays the employer rates for a dependent or single plan in the Kansas State Employee Health Plan. There are five (5) different medical plans to choose from and two different providers. Salary Information

Placement on the USD 445 negotiated salary schedule based on experience and education level. Starting pay for new teacher on the salary schedule is currently $46,900. Experience, college credits and professional development points (from USD 445) are utilized in column movement on the salary schedule. Contracted days total 180. This does not include any possible supplemental pay that might be considered. If you are interested in supplemental positions, the salary would be in addition to what is your base salary amount.
