Manhattan High School has a growing Agriculture Education program. Two teachers currently teach in three states approved CTE pathways including Power, Structure, and Technical Systems, Animal Science, and Comprehensive Agriculture. The CTE department has recently added a new greenhouse with a classroom attached. The teaching duties will be decided with discussion on expertise and comfort. Many Ag classes also qualify for science credit, and welding classes are concurrent with Manhattan Area Technical College. The instructor will also assist with the FFA organization.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Kansas Teaching License.
A degree from an accredited college or university with intensive course work in Agriculture Education and an Agriculture Vocational endorsement for grades 9-12 is required for this position.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
All CTE instructors will follow guidelines by KSDE in maintenance and data reporting to the CTE coordinator. All CTE pathways maintain an advisory committee which meets twice a year. Training and professional development are necessary and provided when needed.
Position may assist with FFA and teach a variety of Agriculture classes in three states approved CTE pathways.
Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided by the district.
Guides students in maintaining acceptable standards of classroom behavior.
Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or students group involved.
Strives to implement by instruction and action the districts philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
Shows instructional and interpersonal strategies and techniques responsive to the cultural, ethnic, economic, and linguistic differences of students.
Teaches all students from a culturally inclusive perspective and establishes an expectation that classroom language and behaviors value differences.
Supports students in their efforts to discover and share their own cultural identities and teaches students the appropriate language for asking questions about the culture of other people.
Evaluates student progress continually and reports at designated times.
Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policy.
Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for educational purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
Cooperates with other members of staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
Other duties as assigned by administration.

ABOUT MANHATTAN HIGH SCHOOL: Manhattan High School is a 9th through 12th grade high school. The estimated enrollment for the 2025-2026 school year is 2,050 students. School begins at 8:00 a.m. and releases at 3:10 p.m. Teachers teach 5 of 7 class periods with an additional Advisory period one day a week. The 2 open periods in a teacher’s schedule are dedicated to an hour of planning and an hour dedicated to professional learning time. MHS utilizes a modified block schedule that consists of periods 1-7 being taught Monday, Tuesday, and Friday. Wednesday and Thursday are block schedule days. Wednesday consists of 1st period, Advisory, 2nd period, and 3rd period. Thursday’s schedule consists of 4th through 7th periods. Every teacher is provided with a MacBook Air and an iPad. All classrooms are equipped with a short-throw projector and an Apple TV. Every student is provided with an iPad. USD 383 uses Infinite Campus for our student information system, CANVAS for our LMS (learning management system) and Xello for our individual plan of study system. We teach a wide variety of electives, Career and Technical Education, concurrent, dual credit, and Advanced Placement classes. We have many official and unofficial career pathways and athletic and activity opportunities with incredible student involvement. We have high expectations for all students and staff.
