9 Month Contract Full-time Position (renewable contract position) 

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Agriculture Instructor will teach 15 credit hours of classes each semester, fostering a hands-on, student-centered learning environment. The successful candidate will also serve as the sponsor for the Collegiate Farm Bureau, supporting student leadership and professional growth. Key responsibilities include recruiting prospective students, revitalizing the agriculture program, and building strong community and industry connections to enhance student opportunities. A commitment to academic excellence, mentorship, and program innovation is essential. The onsite teaching assignment will include both on-ground and online classes within the Agriculture department. The position is also responsible for division participation, committee and task force service, and individual professional development.

 QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in or with 18 graduate credit hours in the discipline or subfield; and/or valid/Industry recognized credential in the discipline and/or 2 or more years industry experience in the career/technical field.

 LOCATION: Iola, Kansas Campus office location. On-campus hours are required of the position.

 SALARY: Salary range $41,00-62,000; based on education and experience. 

 STARTING DATE: 1/8/2026  Classes begin 1/20/2026

SUMMARY

The Agriculture Instructor will teach all assigned courses and associated activities as related to major subject area.  Courses include but are not limited to: Principles of Animal Science, Crop Science, Animal Diseases and Health, Soil Science, Livestock Production, Marketing Farm Products.  The instructor will prepare all instructional materials for the various learning activities associated with their major subject area, maintain accurate student records, keep current in the teaching field, recommend pertinent library materials for acquisition to the library, sponsor student and support activities.

Related service activities include recruiting Agriculture scholarship students, actively serving on college committees, attending faculty meetings, assisting student services with regard to recruiting events and current student support, and attending commencement ceremonies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Prepare course syllabi, measurable student outcomes, class outlines, and provide appropriate information thereon to students on or before the first day of class.
2. Maintain student records and observe confidential and ethical practices (i.e. attendance, grades, State reimbursement, etc.).
3. Complete requested documents and follow assessment procedures as needed by the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Director of Institutional Research, and academic committees involved with assessment.
4. Meet all classes and associated activities as scheduled and maintain order and discipline.  Associated activities include but are not limited to: laboratory, field trips, independent study, cultural and social events, etc.
5. Post and maintain office hours to advise and counsel students who request assistance.  Refer students who need additional assistance to the appropriate college support service area for tutoring/counseling.
6. Prepare and submit annual professional/educational development plan.
7. Maintain a learning environment in the classroom using generally accepted teaching methods.
8. Maintain listing of Library resources for students interested in further readings in subject area.
9. Conduct periodic self and formal (per Master Contract) evaluation of instruction.

1. Prepare and submit reports, plans of action, program review, state reports, survey results, student placement reports, leave requests, travel requests, etc., on a timely basis as required.
2. Attend in-service, department, and faculty meetings as called.
3. Schedule, conduct, and document advisory committee activities as appropriate.
4. Submit textbook requests when needed.
5. Be familiar and comply with the College policies, procedures, and announcements.
6. Maintain up-to-date instructional program materials and equipment inventory.
7. Communicate with colleagues on campus, within service district, and with other community colleges and universities.
8. Update Master Course Outline each time course content is changed through Curriculum and Instruction and communicate any changes to all Agriculture adjunct instructors.
9. Provide subject area leadership in the development of new major courses, support courses, and/or program offerings.
10. Consistently strive to improve the quality of service provided to the community.
11. Provide leadership in the community.
12. Seek the most effective ways to facilitate learning to stimulate critical thinking, develop skills, and to broaden and enrich student interest.
13. Attend commencement ceremonies.
14. Serve on committee(s) as required.
15. Assist with student recruitment, advising, enrollment, and retention.
16. Ensure moral, ethical, and integrity values.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for supervision of students in class setting.  May supervise Work Study or Work Arrangement students.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience

Master’s degree in Agriculture required.  College teaching experience preferred.
