Extension Agent – Lyon County

Rhett Newby, Lyon County Extension Agent

Rhett Newby will begin serving as the Lyon County 4-H youth development extension agent, effective Aug 19. Lyon County’s office is in Emporia, Kansas. 

Newby earned his bachelor’s degree in animal sciences from Kansas State University.  He has most recently been employed as a Food Safety, Quality and Regulatory (FSQR) team lead for Cargill in Emporia, Kansas.

4-H youth development agents develop and deliver educational programs for school-aged youth.  This includes supporting community clubs, out-of-school programs, school enrichment, volunteer management, and outreach to create new program opportunities with new and existing community partners.

Extension Agent – Cherokee County

Josie Welch will begin serving as the Cherokee County 4-H youth development extension agent, effective May 13. Cherokee County’s office is in Columbus, Kansas.

Welch earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in psychology from Pittsburg State University. She has most recently been employed as a program coordinator at Crawford County Mental Health Center in Pittsburg, Kansas.
