Agriculture Teacher – Osborne High School

Job Description

USD 392 Osborne is seeking an Agriculture Instructor and FFA Sponsor for the 2023-2024 school year. Current coursework includes: Agriscience, Animal Science, Welding, and Ag Internship. However, there is the freedom to teach 8th Grade Exploratory Ag, Plant & Soil Science, Agribusiness or Ag Leadership & Communications in the next school year. If the applicant meets qualifications they could also teach Welding for credit through NCK Tech for an additional stipend. Current approved pathways are Comprehensive Ag and Power, Structural, & Technical Systems. 

This agriculture program is three years young and has great backing by numerous supporters and business leaders within the community. An endowment fund for program sustainability has been awarded as well. The Board of Education is committed to the program and its growth as they see its importance for all students. The welding shop has the potential to be expanded and efforts are ongoing to acquire new equipment. There is also land available for the program to use in any way whether it be a land lab or animal facility. 

Though Osborne is a 1A school, the FFA chapter currently has 52 active members willing to learn and help build a strong, everlasting FFA chapter. The chapter is competitive in many CDEs and LDEs and has a large presence in the community. Over $2,000 is awarded to graduating seniors through local FFA scholarships provided by the chapter as well as area supporters. While a couple of traditions have been put into place over the past three years, there is still developmental potential to implementing many more.

POSITION TITLE:          MHS Agriculture Teacher 

FLSA:                             Exempt

QUALIFICATIONS:        Must hold proper state certification

REPORTS TO:              Principal and/or other Supervisor

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  22/23 School Year

New teachers 189 days; returning teachers 187 days with benefits provided according to the Teacher’s Negotiated Agreement.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Participate in curriculum review and design.
  2. Implement a variety of effective instructional strategies consistent with lesson objectives.
  3. Diagnose and evaluates student abilities and progress in a timely and consistent manner.
  4. Monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
  5. Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs- interests- and abilities of the students.
  6. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
  7. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
  8. Refer students for alternative services as provided by the District (ESL- Reading- Special Reading).
  9. Effectively implement district initiatives.
  10. Effectively collaborate with department and grade level teachers.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:   

  1. Abide by state statutes- school board policies and regulations.
  2. Attend meetings and performs duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.
  3. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students- equipment- materials- and facilities.

USD 420 Osage City is a Class 3A school district with a student enrollment of 730 students.  Osage City Elementary has grades PK-5 with approximately 340 students.  Osage City Middle School has approximately 165 students in grades 6-8 and the high school has approximately 225 students.  A successful $6.5 million dollar bond election was held in January of 1999.  Construction of a new high school, auditorium and multi-purpose room were completed during the spring of 2002.   In 2012, another bond of $6.7 million dollars was passed by a 2:1 ratio to renovate the elementary school, build a track/football complex, and a new storm shelter/gymnasium.   Osage City is a member of the Flint Hills Activities League and offers a variety of extra-curricular activities.
