Hutchinson is a community of about 40,000 residents located in south central Kansas approximately 50 miles northwest of Wichita. It is home to the Cosmosphere space museum, Strataca – an underground salt museum, the Kansas State Fair, and the NJCAA Men`s National Basketball Tournament. Hutchinson Public Schools is a diverse school district with approximately 4,600 students. The student body is 75 percent Caucasian, 8.5 percent African American, 15 percent Hispanic with the balance Native American, Asian and other ethnic groups. About 67 percent of the district`s students are on free or reduced-price lunches. There are six elementary schools, one seventh grade attendance center, one eighth grade attendance center and Hutchinson High School.  The Career and Technology Education Academy is on the campus of Hutchinson High School.

Extension Agent – Sunflower District

Kim Artzer, Sunflower District Extension Agent

Kim Artzer will begin serving as the Sunflower District 4-H youth development extension agent, effective April 13. Sunflower District has extension offices in Goodland, Sharon Springs, and St. Francis, Kansas. Artzer’s primary office is in Goodland.

4-H youth development agents develop and deliver educational programs for school-aged youth.  This includes supporting community clubs, out-of-school programs, school enrichment, volunteer management, and outreach to create new program opportunities with new and existing community partners.

Artzer earned both her bachelor’s degree in elementary education and her master’s degree in instructional technology from Fort Hays State University. She has most recently been employed as a professional learning senior specialist for Apple Inc.
