 Agricultural Equipment Technology Instructor

North Central Kansas Technical College is seeking an instructor for the Agricultural Equipment Technology program on the Beloit Campus. Duties include providing state of the art instruction, maintaining a safe and orderly learning environment and securing positive business and industry relationships.

Agricultural Equipment Technology prepares students for a career in the agricultural equipment industry. Students will receive education in diagnosing, repair, and troubleshooting of various equipment manufacturers systems and components. The program includes experience with live work.

Assistant Professor of Agriculture – Garden City Community College

Description

Garden City Community College is a vibrant and dynamic community college located in the heart of the rural Southwest Kansas high plains region. Officially designated as a Hispanic Serving Institution, the College serves a student population which reflects the area’s rich diversity. The College serves approximately 2,000 students across multiple populations including on-campus, online, and area high schools and has a history of strong program options in both transfer and technical education. The College is located in Garden City, a community with a recent history of robust population growth. Garden City has many amenities including arts and culture, plentiful shopping, and daily jet service to Dallas.

Garden City Community College’s Technical Education division seeks an experienced agriculture professional who is passionate about helping students further their educational and career goals. This is a full-time 172-day contract position under the direction of the Dean of Technical Education.  The primary assignment is to create a quality teaching and learning environment that facilitates student success in the Technical Education Division by teaching a variety of agriculture and agribusiness related courses and to develop and coach a Livestock Judging competition team.

The successful applicant will be a part of the college’s Technical Education and Workforce Development team, a dedicated group of individuals working in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.  Supervision is provided by Program Leader, Assistant Dean, and the Dean of Technical Education and Workforce Development.  

Compensation is based on the Negotiated Agreement, where minimum base salary is figured on a formula that considers industry experience, degree attainment, and teaching experience. As examples, the minimum base salary for an Agribusiness Instructor candidate with industry certifications is $48,205.00 for a 9-month contract. An applicant with industry certifications and 10 years of industry experience would earn approximately $51,355.00 for a 9-month contract. A candidate with a Master’s degree and ten years of teaching experience would earn approximately $61,145. Coaching duties are compensated in addition to base salary. Additional teaching experience, work experience, and opportunities for overload and summer courses may further increase earnings. These are estimates, and specific placement can be discussed with the Dean of Technical Education and Workforce Development and/or the Vice President for Instructional Services.  This position is full-time and will have the opportunity for tenure upon the issuance of the fourth annual contract. 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Teaching assigned day, evening, and/or weekend courses using established standards and course syllabi.
  • Developing and coaching a Livestock Judging competition team, including recruitment and travel responsibilities.
  • Providing individual and group facilitation of learning, diagnostic assessment of students, and identification of appropriate learning materials. 
  • Participating in course and curriculum design, student advisement, program review, advisory council, and division activities as required maintaining and improving the learning program.
  • Remaining current in subject matter and in the techniques most effective to promote student learning including developing strategies for the future.
  • Demonstrating initiative and actively recruiting students for the Production Agriculture program.
  • Participating in staff and college meetings and contributing through appropriate committee assignments.
  • Performing other relevant tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Skills:

Required:

  • Five years of industry or instructional experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in AG-Business, AG-Economics, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.

Preferred:

Preference will be given to those candidates who establish the highest level of professional competency as evidenced by:

  • Experience in secondary or post-secondary education
  • Experience in curriculum development and program content
  • Knowledge of instructional design for online learning including Canvas, Blackboard, and other learning management system.
  • Established industry partnerships
  • Experience with livestock evaluation, judging, and coaching.
